psalm 51 nrsv Psalm 51 - Direct Confession to God in the OT

David gives a direct confession to God, asking for forgiveness of sins and cleansing to be done by him, apart from any sacrificial offering. This seems common place in the New Testament, but not in the Old Testament. I think the setting of when he wrote this Psalm has a lot to do with why David went straight to God apart from offering a physical, blood sacrifice. What do you think?
